Express Spelling, Steps 1-5 is an extension of phonics instruction. Students practice using a set of decodable words and activities to match. Since the lists are decodable, the weekly quiz is an assessment of encoding abilities and the transference of the phonics instruction into writing (encoding). Each spelling list has a different set of activities, but each list has the large list, a sentence writing page, and a handwriting practice page.
